Aberdeen Grammar School
This is the main block, designed by James Matthews and built in 1861-1863, plus later additions and alterations. It is part of a group of Category B Listed buildings. See http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB20084 for details. Mercifully, none of the additions in this view are recent enough to be glaringly incompatible with, or to detract from, the original buildings.

Aberdeen Grammar School, with Byron Statue
Lord Byron was born George Gordon. The famous fifth Lord Byron was born in London but his mother took him back to Aberdeen as a baby, and he lived there until he inherited, aged 10, the title from his great uncle.
The school suffered a bad fire since this photograph but the damage to roof and tower has been made good.
