The Farmers Inn, Brafferton
Brafferton and Helperby are ideal places for a pub crawl with 4 inns to choose from and a good selection of ales; but where does Brafferton end and Helperby begin? In this picture, the pub is in Brafferton and the photographer is in Helperby as the parish boundary runs down the centre of the street. The pub is now closed and for sale. [Dec 2009] Update 2020: Any pub crawl around Brafferton/Helperby has now reduced to two hostelries as both this one and the Half Moon towards the southern end of Helperby Main Street have now gone.

This church was built in 1883. It has now been converted into flats. Not the most attractive building in the village!

York Pullman bus at Helperby ? 1970
York Pullman was an independent small bus operator based in York which ran a number of rural routes around York. It was known for its high standard of maintenance with buses looking 'as new' even when 15 years old or more. No.87 is an AEC Swift with bodywork by Roe of Leeds; the choice of a rear-engined chassis was very unusual for a small operator, the majority of which would opt for simpler chassis types. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761 To the right of the bus is High Farm House, a fine Georgian farmhouse dated 1769 and Listed Grade II.
