The impressive church has been described as the most complete Norman church in Yorkshire. It is unique in having four Norman doorways – see this example: Image, and is almost unchanged since it was built in 1135.

St Nicholas's Church, North Newbald
Described by Nikolaus Pevsner as, ‘the most complete Norman Church in the East Riding’ and often called ‘The Cathedral of the Wolds’. An earlier church was recorded in Newbald in the Domesday Survey but the present church was built around 1140. It is Newbald’s only Grade 1 listed building.

Hound of Heaven, St Nicholas' Church, North Newbald
Over the main door is an ancient carving “Christ in his Majesty” (see Image]) and on one of the capitals (right) is a small carving showing the “Hound of Heaven” straining to gain entry. See: https://www.newbaldparishcouncil.gov.uk/about-newbald/

A grade I listed parish church dating from the 13th century. The church was open for visitors to make tea and coffee from materials provided with an honesty box for a suitable donation to church funds
