Former Methodist Chapel, Fangfoss
What an attractive little building this is. Built as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in 1865 and now converted for domestic use. The pale brick construction, round headed windows and almost square proportions look just right.

Norman carvings - St Martin's church
The careful rebuilding of St Martin's in 1849-50 included the reuse of the carved heads along the corbel table. This is an unusual feature on Yorkshire churches and is reminiscent of the splendid carved heads at Kilpeck in Herefordshire.

Corbel table carvings, St Martin's church
Two of the splendid Norman carvings that can be seen on the south side of this village church. On the left is a rather grotesque animal head, but the figure on the right is more of a mystery. Is it a bishop, or maybe a shepherd?

Church of St Martin, Fangfoss
At first glance this appears to be just another plain Victorian village church, but look more closely and one sees evidence of the Norman church that it replaced. There is a splendid Norman south doorway, a selection of grotesque carved heads and figures along the corbel table and several details outside and within. Nice to see such historical detail preserved and not just swept away.
