The Railway from Parker Lane
Parker Lane runs north from Kirk Hammerton to the A59. On the way it encounters this railway on a level crossing - a section of the York/Harrogate line.

Parker Lane level crossing gate
The crossings on this line between Knaresborough and York still have hand-operated gates instead of automatic barriers, a very unusual survival on the National Rail network. Some are at stations, but this one has a keeper whose only job is to operate the crossing gates twice an hour. She must have to enjoy solitude.

Hammerton Road level crossing
Manually operated crossing between Cattal and Kirk Hammerton stations. The cabin houses the crossing keeper. The road is called Parker Lane, but the official railway designation is Hammerton Road.
