Looking up York Road into the tranquil village centre.
It has not always been like this, as the A59 Harrogate/York Road used to come here until a bypass was constructed.

Green Hammerton
Looking along York Road. The building on the immediate left is the Green Hammerton Reading Room - a community hall run by the Green Hammerton Recreational Charity which also runs the village playing fields. There are plans to demolish the Reading Room and replace it with a modern facility in a different location. Further along the street the post office on the left and the Bay Horse on the right can be seen.

St Thomas's Chapel of Ease, Green Hammerton
St Thomas’s Chapel of Ease lies on York Road, with the Church of England Primary School standing behind it.
The Chapel was completed in 1876, at the instigation of the Rev William Valentine, incumbent of the Parish at the time. It is officially designated as a ‘Chapel of Ease’ as the Rev Valentine’s purpose in building it was to relieve the local parishioners of the need to walk to the Parish Church in Whixley. The building was designed by the renowned Victorian architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott, who had connections with the area. It was designated as a Grade II listed building in 2008 (Historic England List entry Number: 1392840 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1392840 Heritage Gateway).
