158 Squadron Memorial at Lissett
Unveiled in 2009, this appealing memorial commemorates the RAF 158 Bomber Squadron, stationed at Lissett Airfield during World War II. The memorial contains 851 names of fallen airmen who flew from this airfield.

RAF Lissett was one of several air force bases constructed along the east coast of England during World War II. The names of 851 fallen airmen are inscribed upon the memorial that is now thirteen years old.

158 Squadron War Memorial, Lissett
Steel plate memorial features seven airmen and stands at the edge of Gransmoor Road on the outskirts of Lisset village. The Squadron was a heavy bomber squadron equipped with the four-engined Handley Page Halifax. The squadron carried out operations up to the end of WW II from nearby Royal Air Force Station Lissett. Between 1943 and 1945, 158 Squadron completed 250 missions, suffering the loss of 144 aircraft. 851 of the squadron's airmen were lost during the conflict.
