Old milestone
One of the 615 milestones erected for the newly formed West Riding County Council in 1893/94. It is on the A1036 overlooking The Knavesmire and a short distance south of the old step-stone. Image] It was painted in 2019. There is no foundry name on the bevel so it is not known where the metal attachment was cast. This area is now in York, North Yorkshire.

Overlooking the Knavesmire. Located on the East side of road, on verge opp Knavesmire Manor. Metal plate attached to stone post, WR casting design, 19th century.
Inscription reads: TADCASTER / 8 MILES / LEEDS / 22 MILES // YORK / 1½ MILES // TADCASTER & HOB MOOR / ROAD / YORK CITY
Grade II listed by Historic England.
