Bilbrough Top Services, A64
During the 1980s, this was the site of a “Happy Eater” roadside diner and a small petrol filling station serving the westbound A64 between York and Leeds (The Happy Eater was re-branded as a Little Chef in the mid-1990s). Bilbrough Top Services grew significantly during the 1990s and 2000s with the development of a McDonald's and a Premier Inn. Growth of the services was further stimulated when the adjacent crossroads (a notorious accident blackspot) was replaced by a flyover which opened in 2005, making the services’ facilities much safer to access, especially when travelling east. The original Happy Eater/Little Chef building was sold in the mid-2000s, and housed (amongst others) a fish and chip restaurant. Most recently, it re-opened as a Starbucks Drive-thru in 2021.
