Walking the Howardian Hills and beyond #1
I'm starting today's walk at Malton bus station. I have no set route but I hope to visit 40 new squares today. So let's get walking. Looking West along the River Derwent.

Former flour mills, Railway Street
A large, former mill building that looks to be of the 19th century. Originally it was Hurtley and Son's flour mill, becoming a biscuit mill in 1887. Well sited next to the River Derwent, which was once navigable to this point, whilst maps of 100 years ago show a railway track branch extending to the front of the mill building. It now appears to be residential.

River Derwent and the Flour Mill, Norton
The river is crossed here by Railway Street Bridge, and Railway Street leads south to the Railway Station and north to the Town Centre. The flour mill is no longer used as a mill. The river is the river Derwent, flowing away from the photographer. The next bridge in this direction is the suspension bridge at Low Hutton.
