Westgate
Westgate, Old Malton. There are a number of different styles of housing Image along this short street before it becomes Westgate Lane to lead out of the village. The building on the near right and covered with ivy is the Wentworth Arms Hotel Image There are also a couple of thatched cottages Image The bottom of the photograph also shows part of Westgate’s junction with the B1257. The viewpoint is from across this road.

School Buildings, Old Malton
These are the old school buildings on Town Street in Old Malton. The small cottage to the right is the school house (now part of a holiday letting). Today these buildings are just a few hundred metres from the Malton bypass intersection with Town Street, which becomes the A169 to Pickering.

Little Thatch, Old Malton
A short way along Westgate Lane from 'Thatch Cottage' is this smaller residence which is thought to date from the late 17thC. Thatch is not that uncommon in and around the Vale of Pickering, perhaps the best known thatched building being the Star Inn at Harome Image which had a devastating fire a few weeks before this was written.

Thatch Cottage, Old Malton
The house is called [rather obviously] 'Thatch Cottage' and is grade 2 listed. To the left is a garage door which was once the byre. The cottage is thought to be late 17thC with later alterations.
