The Ackhorne, St Martins Lane
The pub reverted to its original name of 'ackhorne' instead of 'acorn' in 1993. Situated up a narrow cobbled lane, it is popular with real ale drinkers. According to the 1:25000 map the pub is just within this square.

St Mary, Bishophill Junior
A modest little church tucked away in a quiet corner south of the river. Amongst all the medieval churches of York, St Mary's has the oldest tower dating from the 11th century, but the builders reused a lot of old stones from the Roman and Anglian periods. Early recycling!

The Ackhorne, York
Pronounced 'Acorn', this 18th century pub is tucked away on St Martin's Lane, off Micklegate - the sort of place you are unlikely to find by chance. It is well worth seeking out though as a traditional pub with a range of real ales.
