Built by architect Walter Brierley during the First World War for Thomas Cooke & Sons, who made surveying equipment, telescopes and navigational aids for the armed forces. It was used for the same purpose in the Second World War by Vickers Engineering, and after the war used as a warehouse by Rowntrees before being converted into housing in 1983-84.
