Esplanade and Crown Hotel
The Crown Hotel forms the centrepiece of this curving terrace built in the 1840s when Scarborough was expanding as it developed as a seaside resort. The coming of the railway in 1845 encouraged massive expansion of the first seaside resort. Open public space fills the area between the road and cliff top

The 1840s hotel is listed grade II* (List entry 1258434) but in recent years had been converted to rental apartments Image The Prince of Wales's crest is on the tympanum above the porticoed entrance - the listing for the nearby Spa says it was "frequented by the Prince of Wales" so presumably he stayed here and bestowed the royal warrant.
