Former Castle Hotel
In the late 1980s the Castle Hotel was destroyed by fire and the only part to survive is the stuccoed building on the right which was restored and converted to flats. The rest of the building was replaced by the large red brick block in 1997. It is flats called Blackfriars Court since in the medieval period the Dominicans or Blackfriars occupied the site.

Flats on Queen Street
The building with the stone architraves around the windows was built in the late 18th century probably as house and offices for a ship owner. In the mid 20th century a shop front was inserted, in an unsympathetic style; this has now been removed and the building restored as closely as possible to its original form. it is now flats.

18th century buildings, Queen Street
A good group of mid to late 18th century buildings on Queen Street, which are Listed. They were probably built as town houses but most of them are now in business use. Queen Street Methodist Central Hall which is advertised is not seen in the photograph; it is set well back behind the car park on the right
