Former Castle Hotel

In the late 1980s the Castle Hotel was destroyed by fire and the only part to survive is the stuccoed building on the right which was restored and converted to flats. The rest of the building was replaced by the large red brick block in 1997. It is flats called Blackfriars Court since in the medieval period the Dominicans or Blackfriars occupied the site.
