18th century buildings, Queen Street
A good group of mid to late 18th century buildings on Queen Street, which are Listed. They were probably built as town houses but most of them are now in business use. Queen Street Methodist Central Hall which is advertised is not seen in the photograph; it is set well back behind the car park on the right

Queen Street, Scarborough
Looking roughly north along Queen Street. This is street in within the New Borough i.e. a medieval expansion of the town. The curved alignment is thought to reflect the pre-existing street pattern. the large building at the far left was built in the 19th century as a convent; it is now residential.

Shop front, Queen Street
This is one of the finest period shop fronts in Scarborough. The host building, which is Listed, dates from the mid to late 18th century, but the shop front is probably late 19th or early 20th century. The brick building to the left, also Listed, dates from themed 18th century, it was probably built as offices for a shipping company.

Queen Street Methodist Church
Called Queen Street Central Hall, this Methodist church was built in 1923to replace an earlier one of 1840 destroyed by fire on 26 February 1915. The new building was designed by George Withers in the Byzantine style.

Former Castle Hotel
In the late 1980s the Castle Hotel was destroyed by fire and the only part to survive is the stuccoed building on the right which was restored and converted to flats. The rest of the building was replaced by the large red brick block in 1997. It is flats called Blackfriars Court since in the medieval period the Dominicans or Blackfriars occupied the site.

Door case of the former Castle Hotel
When the fire damaged Castle Hotel was rebuilt as Blackfriars flats referred to in Image, this late 18th century door case was retained, restored and reused.
