Ryecroft Avenue in Penn, Wolverhampton
The heavy snow fell on 22 and 23 March, and because of continued easterly wind caused by static high pressure over north-west Europe, much of it still lay over the ground at the beginning of April, after British Summer Time had started. This image is from 24 March 2012. March 2012 saw daytime temperatures frequently above 20°C. 2013 maxima varied from 1°C to 5°C. The block of shops in Birchwood Road can be seen on the left at the foot of the hill.

Houses in Ryecroft Avenue in Penn, Wolverhampton
Looking south-east from the junction with Birchwood Road and Westbourne Road. The house on the left used to be a corner shop until the (?)1980s. Another such shop and the public house have disappeared from close by this junction. The country is experiencing late winter snow, with some very cold nights further north.

Goldthorn Avenue in Penn, Wolverhampton
It is unclear whether this corner is the top bit of Westbourne Road, or a short arm of Goldthorn Avenue. The footpath ahead leads to Coton Road.

Ryecroft Avenue in Penn, Wolverhampton
Looking east-south-east up this short cul-de-sac, from the junction with Birchwood Road. There is a pedestrian exit at the top via a public footpath linking Goldthorn Avenue with Coton Road. That house on the left corner used to be one of four small convenience stores, and closed in the early 1990s(?).

The corner of Rycroft Avenue, Penn, Wolverhampton
Ahead by the white corner house is Rycroft Avenue. This white house, until the 1980s used to be a small corner store, and was for a few years run by a couple, both of whom became Conservative Wolverhampton councillors. Birchwood Road with its short parade of shops is off camera to the right.

Ryecroft Cottages, Coton Road.
These cottages are tucked away from the rest of Coton Road, behind Colton Hills school. Because there is a barrier across the road, access is via Sutherland Road.
