Detached house in Penn, Wolverhampton
This attractive dwelling is at the top of Ryecroft Avenue where the public footpath climbs off to the right towards Coton Roan. A highly unseasonal amount of snow has fallen. (Yes the date is 24 March, not 24 January!)

Footpath on Goldthorn Hill, Wolverhampton
This short footpath leads from Coton Road to Ryecroft Avenue and it was not 24 December, or even 24 January.
The date really was 24 March, and much of the lying snow had not cleared by the beginning of April when British Summer(!) Time had started. Persistent easterly winds caused by an anti-cyclone stuck over north-west Europe made March 2013 the coldest since 1962. The last week in March 2012 is remembered for repeated daytime maximum temperatures of above 20°C. 2013 maxima varied from 1°C to 5°C.

Footpath on Goldthorn Hill, Wolverhampton
This short footpath leads from Coton Road to Ryecroft Avenue.
The snow here was heavier than expected in late March, and took more than a week to melt while easterly winds persisted, causing the coldest March since 1962.
