This short footpath leads from Coton Road to Ryecroft Avenue and it was not 24 December, or even 24 January. The date really was 24 March, and much of the lying snow had not cleared by the beginning of April when British Summer(!) Time had started. Persistent easterly winds caused by an anti-cyclone stuck over north-west Europe made March 2013 the coldest since 1962. The last week in March 2012 is remembered for repeated daytime maximum temperatures of above 20°C. 2013 maxima varied from 1°C to 5°C.
