Jillie Flowers (Former Post Office), Penn, Wolverhampton
Earlier in the century the office was on Penn Road, until it moved here. This was Upper Penn Post Office until 2003, when it moved back into the Penn Road (A449) to its present position. Image The pillar box, which used to be outside this shop was moved, not outside the new post office, oh no! It was moved across Mount Road in the opposite direction, and planted outside the pub, Image] so that instead of crossing no roads after purchasing one's stamps, one now has to cross two including the busy A449 and walk 50 metres, (...and it hasn't had a lick of paint since!) (The people in charge insist they are intelligent!)
Luckily the sub-postmaster and his wife are friendly and helpful, and local people do not want this post office closed down.

Looking west towards Mount Road. Belmont Road is a cul-de-sac. Housing is mainly terraced and semi-detached. Penn Road can be seen at the far end of the road.

North end of Mount Road, Upper Penn
Like the junction at the Image, this junction was once used to turn trolleybuses, although latterly only for occasional short workings; the wiring enabling trolleybuses to turn here was removed in the 1940s. As at Ward Road, more recently the junction has been narrowed, although here the grass verges have at least partially failed to grow.

The Mount Tavern sign boards in Penn, Wolverhampton
It was quite a surprise to find the Mount Tavern serving Batham's (quite hard to come by) real ale, with three others on offer. The pub is on the Penn Road (A449) at the junction with Mount Road.
