Bus shelter, Penn, Wolverhampton
Mount Road. With an almost tropical style plant behind the sandstone wall, this modern bus shelter still shows evidence that yesterday's snow fall was wet and sticky, and blown by a stiff easterly before freezing 10-12cm thick on the windward side.

Snowing on Mount Road in Penn, Wolverhampton
Looking south-west from the junction with Sandringham Road. No bus routes travel north-east from that bus stop; just a few school bus services stop there. Two falls of snow within 48 hours resulted in a total depth on open grassy areas of 15-18cm.

Redundant Mount Road bus stop in Penn, Wolverhampton
Looking south-west towards Wakeley Hill and Penn Common. There used to be a tortuous "circular" bus route linking Mount Road with the city centre. This route went in both directions and it has now been discontinued. The replacement service is a much shorter "circle" and only goes round in one direction, so this bus stop is redundant, except for occasional school services not available to the public. Two falls of snow within 48 hours resulted in a total depth on local open grassy areas of 15-18cm. Image]

Inspection covers in Penn, Wolverhampton
These landline telephone equipment inspection covers are in the pavement by 76 Mount Road in Penn. The Post Office, which had operated telephone services since 1912, was separated from the industry in 1981, being replaced by British Telecommunications (later British Telecom, or just BT), which was then privatised in 1984. Now that mobile phone usage is so widely preferred and cheap, the whole concept of landlines is approaching its end. It is planned that the technology will be switched off in 2025, the network being transferred to a kind of digital internet based hybrid.

Redundant bus stop in Mount Road, Wolverhampton
Near the junctions with Muchall Road and Sandringham Road. There used to be a "circular" bus route which operated both clockwise, and anticlockwise and linking much of the WV4 postal area to the city centre. Recently this route 63/64 has been reduced in its scope, and now only runs in one direction, hourly during the day, so this bus stop is not in use. Image]
