Housing in Park Street South, Blakenhall, Wolverhampton
This scene is likely to change radically within very few weeks. The terraced late Victorian housing, and the late twentieth century housing on the right will still be here. The 1960s tower block, Phoenix Rise, about 250 metres away, will not. Already the nearer third of the block has been demolished, bit by bit over the last three months. The rest should disappear more rapidly when the current frozen spell of weather has passed. Image

Several of these 1960s tower blocks in Blakenhall have been demolished with explosives in recent years. This is the only one left, Phoenix Rise. Update: Phoenix Rise is being demolished slowly by traditional methods. See this October 2010 image: Image] Job finished January 2011.
