Housing in Park Street South, Blakenhall, Wolverhampton
This scene is likely to change radically within very few weeks. The terraced late Victorian housing, and the late twentieth century housing on the right will still be here. The 1960s tower block, Phoenix Rise, about 250 metres away, will not. Already the nearer third of the block has been demolished, bit by bit over the last three months. The rest should disappear more rapidly when the current frozen spell of weather has passed. Image

Storm Brewing over a Blakenhall Tower Block
Several of these 1960s tower blocks in Blakenhall have been demolished with explosives in recent years. This is the only one left, Phoenix Rise.

This road leads from Goldthorn Hill gently down hill to St Luke's Church in Blakenhall. The terraced housing is late Victorian. A short distance down on the right some buildings have been demolished and replaced with small modern semi-detached houses set back from the road to allow parking space.
