Founded in 1850, the company was making 341000 boots a year in the late 1890s. The company closed in the 1970s. This was the employee entrance at the rear of the premises. It is now used by a furniture company.

The Courtyard, Baker's Boot Factory, Wolverhampton
The former boot and shoe factory of James Baker and Sons (established 1850) was built in 1868, closed in 1970, and as a Grade II listed building was restored to alternative use by 2008. The whole extensive site is used as a furniture retail store/warehouse, as well as for offices by other smaller businesses.The necessary use of a wide angle lens has made this courtyard appear larger than it is.

James Baker's boot factory in Wolverhampton
This shows the former back entrance into the workshops, at the junction of Powlett Street and Vicarage Road. I am uncertain whether the Grade II listed status which applies to the front of the factory extends to this end.
