The Acton Arms, Haughton Lane
The Acton Arms is on Haughton Lane, which here forms part of the A458 road between Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. The pub has a restaurant and beer garden. The building dates from the 18th century. In the 1970's, the then landlady claimed that a ghost was seen at least once a day. It was suggested that the ghost might be that of Richard Manners, who was Prior of Morville Priory at the time of the dissolution of the monasteries. Image

The Acton Arms (pub sign), Haughton Lane
This used to be a Banks's pub, but they have been taken over by Marstons. Since the takeover, the traditional Banks's sign of a golden lion, with the pub name above, has been changed to this rather smart sign, showing what is presumably the coat of arms of the Acton family. Now the sign has far more lions than the previous one. A photograph taken five years ago by Bob Embleton, includes the previous sign:- Image The Actons were a leading local Catholic family from Acton Burnell. They were in Morville from at least the 14th century. They lived at Aldenham Hall, Morville. Image
