Statue of Billy Wright
Statue of Billy Wright in front of the Billy Wright Stand, part of Molineux Stadium, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The sculptor was James Butler and it was unveiled by Billy Wright's widow, Joy (one of the singing group, the Beverley Sisters) in 1996. The statue was recently restored after it was hit by a car in January 2017. Billy Wright played for 'Wolves' during one of the club's most successful periods during the 1950s when they won the old First Division three times.

Molineux Sent Off

Billy Wright played made his debut as a Wolverhampton Wanderers first team player in 1939 at the age of fifteen, though because of the onset of World War II, many regular players had already been called up, so his official debut was in 1946 in an FA Cup tie against Lovells Athletic ..... (who?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovells_Athletic_F.C. He became club captain following Stan Cullis's retirement in 1948 and played until 1959, years during which Wolves had their most successful period. He played for England 105 times, and was captain for ninety of them. He managed Arsenal for a while, and married Joy Beverley (of the popular singing trio of Beverley Sisters). He died in 1994 aged seventy.
The bronze statue is by James Walter Butler and was placed on the west side of Molineux Stadium in 1996.
