Looking west-north-west towards Aldersley Junction, and towards Lock No 15 in the Wolverhampton flight of 21. The Wolverhampton Science Park is off to the right on the site of the former Wolverhampton Gas Works. Sustrans National Route 81 for cyclists passes along the towpath here and is waymarked all the way to Aberystwyth.

Looking west-north-west towards Aldersley Junction, and towards Lock No 15 in the Wolverhampton flight of 21. The Wolverhampton 21 - Lock No 15
Looking east-south-east towards Wolverhampton city centre at Lock No 15. Gorsebrook Bridge and the A449 Stafford Road are behind the camera. There are 21 locks (originally 20) in the Wolverhampton flight, raising the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line (Wolverhampton Level) by 132 feet (40 metres).
Sustrans National Route 81 (Aberystwyth to Wolverhampton) for cyclists passes along the towpath here.

Canal by Wolverhampton Science Park near Dunstall Hill
Looking north-west from Wolverhampton Locks No 14. The Wolverhampton Science Park is off to the right on the site of the former Wolverhampton Gas Works.
Sustrans National Route 81 for cyclists passes along the towpath here. This is the way to Telford, Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Newtown and Aberystwyth avoiding most heavy traffic. Walkers should be aware that some cyclists are fast, almost silent and don't always use their bells (if they have one)!

Canal by Wolverhampton Lock No 15
The lock is adjacent to the A449 Stafford Road.The viaduct ahead brings the main railway line in to the city from the north.
The flight of twenty-one locks completed James Brindley's Canal link from Birmingham to Aldersley Junction (joining the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal) which opened its full 22.5 mile (36km) by 1772. The flight alters the water level by 132 feet (40 metres) over two miles.
