Coxfold Farmhouse
Under the relatively modern exterior lies a probable early 17th century, timber framed, Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101139004-coxfold-farmhouse-pheasey-park-farm-ward#.W3CWndQrLGg building. The projected date of 1617 is taken from carved numbers on the soffit of a beam which were seen during renovation works in the mid 20th century, but they are not entirely conclusive.

Visiting the former Barr Beacon Quarry
Guided by members of the Black Country Geological Society, a group from the Warwickshire Geological Conservation Group inspects the quarry, cleared of scrub by BCGS volunteers. The geological exposure is of Kidderminster Conglomerate, top left, overlying Bridgnorth Sandstone, aka Hopwas Breccia. The conglomerate sheds quantities of Bunter Pebbles, lower right.

Signs of past events at the former Barr Beacon Quarry
Erosion of the overlying Kidderminster Conglomerate, top, has sent a slew of Bunter pebbles down the slope, lower right. A chunk of the Bridgnorth Sandstone, aka Hopwas Breccia, has fallen but has been caught by the steel railings, right. In the foreground are the stumps of trees and bushes cleared by volunteers from the Black Country Geological Society to maintain the view of the exposure.

Underfoot, former Barr Beacon Quarry
On the right is a chunk of tree stem left behind from scrub clearance by volunteers from the Black Country Geological Society. On the left is a broken Bunter pebble in the cascade of stones from the Kidderminster Conglomerate. Frequently found in Warwickshire, I always imagined from their dark red and brown colours that they were of hard sandstone but I learnt here that they are of quartzite, metamorphosed sandstone, very hard, and the broken edges are extremely sharp, almost like flint.
