Ombersley Court - 2
Close-up of the house from the footpath crossing the estate - about as close as can be achieved via public access. Samuel Sandys, the first Lord Sandys (1695-1770), MP for Worcester, rose to become Chancellor of the Exchequer and a member of the Privy Council. His 1724 mansion, designed and built by Francis Smith of Warwick, stands on the site of the former Abbots’ buildings. Ashlar refronting by John Webb of Lichfield took place in 1814.

Ombersley Court
The estate has been owned by the Sandys family since 1560, when Edwin Sandys was appointed Bishop of Worcester by Queen Elizabeth I. The house was built in the 1720's, replacing an earlier one on the same site. Viewed from near the Wychavon Way. There is a pub in the village of Ombersley called The Crown and Sandys, which has recently re-opened after renovation.

Ombersley churchyard - 2
Looking south to the mortuary chapel at the far end of the graveyard. The chapel is all that remains of the original church, which was pulled down in 1825 to make way for the present day St Andrew's church.

St. Andrew's Church
St Andrew's Church in Ombersley is an "estate church" connected with Ombersley Court. Designed by Thomas Rickmans (1776-1841) it remains almost unaltered since it was completed in 1829. The Spire is 160 feet high and rests on top of the Bell Tower. Viewed here from near the Wychavon Way.
