The Glovers Needle is a local food focussed pub style restaurant situate on the Warndon Estate, a couple of miles or so outside the city centre. It is part of the Hungry Horse chain, which is owned by the Suffolk based Greene King brewery. There is a children's play area and an outside patio area and terrace with seating. Glovers Needle (2) - sign, Windermere Drive, Warndon, Worcester
For a long period of time Worcester was the leading centre in the UK for glove making with at one time about 150 different manufacturers and at its height employing about 30,000 people. Today there appears to be only one surviving firm, Alwyn Gloves, who are based near to the city at Rushwick. The name of this pub/restaurant celebrates this industry and as far as I can see it is the only pub in Worcester to currently do so. The surviving steeple of the former St. Andrews Church in St. Andrews Gardens is also known locally as the Glovers Needle. Image
