The Virgin Tavern (1), Tolladine Road, Tolladine, Worcester
This is now a Marston's house. It is quite an old pub, and was certainly here by 1830 under the present name, but is probably older. The modern housing estates have grown around it. See also:- Image

The Virgin Tavern (3) - sign, Tolladine Road, Tolladine, Worcester
This sign has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I who was known as the Virgin Queen, as she never married. It is at least the third sign the pub has had in the last 20/25 years or so. The previous one was a close-up of the Queen holding up a pair of grapes. The sign prior to that was actually of her half-sister Queen Mary, popularly known as Bloody Mary for her enthusiasm for having Protestants burned at the stake. There is a tale that the pub was first known as the Virgin Mary Tavern, because it was built on land which was possibly the site of a Roman Catholic presbytery, but the authenticity of this is unknown. This sign is on a post at the side of the car park. The pub also has a similar sign attached to the wall of the pub fronting Tolladine Road. See also:- Image

Study of a Gasoline Station
Texaco, Worcester. This photograph is part of a series taken in homage to the American artist Ed Ruscha's 1963 publication of 'Twentysix Gasoline Stations'. More properly known as filling stations in the UK, I am attempting to photograph as many as possible to mark the sixty year anniversary.
