The old Northwick cinema, Northwick Road, Worcester
A very special Art Deco exterior in great nick. Pity it's not still a picture house, but there you go, at least it's still a splendid example of the genre.

Ombersley Road Post Office, 129 Ombersley Road, Worcester
With so many post offices having been forced to close in recent years, it is good to find this one in the northern suburbs of Worcester still operating. Outside is a real rarity, an Edward VIII post box. This is believed to be the only one in Worcester, and must date from around 1936, which was the year of his brief reign before he abdicated in favour of his brother, George VI. For a close up of the post box please see:- Image

Edward VIII post box (detail), Ombersley Road, Worcester
Close up of the crown and Royal Cipher on this rare Edward VIII post box in Ombersley Road. There are believed to be only 200 or less of these Edward VIII post boxes surviving, so they are of considerable historic interest. Image

Edward VIII post box, Ombersley Road, Worcester
Edward VIII reigned for less than a year (in 1936) and had abdicated before his coronation could take place. As a result there are very few physical reminders of his reign which can be discovered by the public. No coins were issued, and the main survivors seem to be his postage stamps, and some Royal Mail post boxes bearing his Royal Cipher and crown. There are believed to be only 200 or less of these in the whole of the UK, so they are very rare. This one is outside Ombersley Road Post Office, on the corner of Ombersley Road and Vine Street. A nice touch is the gold lining of the crown and cipher. For a closer view of these please see:- Image Ombersley Road Post Office:- Image

The Vine, 131 Ombersley Road, Worcester
A large suburban main road pub, on the corner of Ombersley Road and Vine Street. It probably dates from the 1930's or a bit earlier, as many of the nearby buildings are of this period. It is opposite to the former art deco style Northwick Cinema, which dates from 1938. For a close-up of the pub sign:- Image

The Northwick Arms, 29 Vine Street, Northwick, Worcester
This is the local pub for this part of the north Worcester suburb of Northwick. The building appears much older than most of the nearby houses. Like so many pubs in Worcestershire, and elsewhere, it is currently sporting a sign saying "Pub business opportunity available to let". However the pub is open for business as usual. The front entrance of the pub is in Northwick Road, although its postal address is in Vine Street which is the road around the corner.

The Northwick Arms, 29 Vine Street, Northwick, Worcester
This public house is on the corner of Vine Street and Northwick Road, in the north Worcester suburb of Northwick. Presumably the main entrance was originally on Vine Street, as that is the pub's postal address. But today the main entrance is from Northwick Road.
