A replica coal mine with a shaft and drift. It was 'mining' ready bagged coal for the traction engine community - a trick the NCB could never master!

A replica wooden pit head gear with a little winch and pumping set up. Bagged coal is provided from here. The old motor lorry is a nice touch too.

Welland Steam & Country Rally - road making display
Part of the display is a narrow gauge railway that includes Kerr, Stuart No. 3128 of 1918 Roger - an 0-4-0ST Wren class steam locomotive that is normally based at Statfold Barn Railway.

Welland Steam Rally - tractor pulling
This is a significant part of the spectacle at this annual event and this shows one of the more capable machines here. HMS Engineering of Hereford have created the Scandeere - a John Deere tractor with a Scania V8 truck engine. The sled is seen to the left and includes a weight that is winched along the bed to increase the load on the tractor. Unfortunately the light was in the wrong direction here.

Welland Steam and Country Rally - The day's labours are over
The two ploughing engines together at the end of the weekend's work. They had been working as a pair across the large field to the left of the nearest engine. Nearest is F49 UXF - Fowler Z7, built 1922, a compound weighing 22 tons and based in the Banbury area. This was repatriated from Mozambique. Beyond is KE 2494 - Fowler K7, built 1916 as a compound weighing 12 tons and named Linkey. It is based in Droitwich.

Welland Steam Rally - tractor pull
Specially modified tractors pull a large weight up a field as far as they can while the mechanics of the towed weight make it progressively harder to pull. This particular tractor was stuck relatively close to the beginning and surrounded by rubber or clutch smoke, or a mixture of the two.
