The Almonry, Evesham
The Almonry was part of Evesham Abbey, built in the 14th century to house the almoner, a monk who would minister to the poor and sick of the parish. Since 1957 it has been the town museum. This view shows part of the back of the building where there is a pleasant garden.

Inside the Almonry at Evesham
The Almonry was part of Evesham Abbey, built in the 14th century to house the almoner, a monk who would minister to the poor and sick of the parish. Since 1957 it has been the town museum, an atmospheric space with an eclectic collection of artefacts telling the story of the town through the centuries. It is quite a treasure trove although visitors do need to beware of uneven floors and steps.

Crimean War Cannon at the Almonry Museum
This cannon, displayed in the garden at the back of the Almonry, is plated 'Captured 1855 at Sevastopol'. It was cast at St Petersburg and presented to Evesham in 1856. According to the adjacent information board it 'is believed capable of hurling a ball 2,300 yards with a 14lb ball of powder'. Presumably nobody has tested this out in recent times.
