Old Milestone by the A62, Leeds Road, Heckmondwike
Metal plate attached to stone post by the A62, in parish of BATLEY AND LIVERSEDGE (KIRKLEES District), Leeds Road, Heckmondwike, just North of Six Lanes End A651/B6117 junction, by wall surrounding Six Lane Ends Working Mens Club/Public House, on East side of road. Brayshaw & Booth iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th century.

Old milestone
Looking towards Birstall. When these milestones were set up the backing stones were not painted. This one has had coats of white and black in the 130 years it has been by the roadside. When place names were longer than 10 letters the legends were cast at an angle.

Old milestone
This West Riding CC milestone dating from 1893/94 has not been painted since first recorded for the Milestone Society 20 years ago. It is on the east side of the A62, Leeds Road, Heckmondwike, just north of Six Lane Ends junction, A651/B6117. Birstall is now spelt with two Ls.
