Building site near Woodend Road, Hopton
This was a transport depot, an unattractive area that I didn't think to take a photograph of when I was there previously. Now it is in the early stages of becoming a housing estate. Taken from the old Woodend Road railway bridge.

Woodend Road, Hopton, Mirfield
This is a privately maintained road which led to the Victoria and Woodend maltkilns, and now leads to a sports ground and the back entrance to a haulage firm. It is now a bridleway, after a successful claim on grounds of usage, and has also become part of the Calder Valley Greenway cycle route.

Freight trains on the Calder Valley main line near Mirfield
View eastward, from beside the Locomotive Depot (across the lines) towards Mirfield Station, Leeds, Wakefield etc. The westbound Class H in foreground is headed by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48146, the eastbound train behind by 8F 48095. The Depot coaling-plant is in the centre and the River Calder behind. This four-track section between Heaton Lodge Junction and Thornhill (LNW) Junction was exceptionally busy because it carried all the traffic on the west-east axis across the Pennines on both the ex-London & North Western and the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire routes. Lower Hopton County Primary School, Mirfield
The School is on Woodend Road, Lower Hopton. According to the history books, Lower Hopton was a Village alongside the river Calder. It is now a district of Mirfield. There used to be two woollen mills a locomotive depot and a Mineral water factory, sadly all are gone

Towpath alongside the River Calder, Mirfield (SE200198)
The river here is part of the Calder and Hebble Navigation. The towpath, now a public footpath, used to cross the river by a toll bridge, the central cast-iron piers of which can be seen in the middle of the photo.
