The blue plaque (put in place by Mirfield Town Council and Mirfield Civic Society) reads: "HOPTON HALL The original hall may have been built pre Norman conquest and is thought to have been the seat of Alric, Lord of the Manor. Shown in the Domesday Book, William the Conqueror gave the hall to Ilbert de Lacy (his tenant in chief). In the 15th/16th C. it is thought to have been the manor home of the Mirfield family. In the 16th C. it became the Thorpe Manor House and was reconstructed by Richard Thorpe."

Originally 16th century but largely rebuilt in the 19th, which is probably why it is only listed at Grade II (List entry 1183916).

Noted for its display of daffodils in Spring. This year the cold weather has lasted right through March and into April, so the daffodils have not flowered as prolifically as in one of the previous photographs, which coincidentally was also taken on the 9th April.
