Registry Office, 71 Northgate
Originally known as Egremont House, this grade II listed Georgian manor was built around 1811 for farmer John Egremont and his wife Hannah Crowther, heiress to Thomas Crowther, a wealthy wool stapler and owner of a warehouse, and the Woolpacks Inn on Westgate. After several changes of hands, the house came into public ownership in 1869 and was acquired by the Rivers Board. It became council owned in 1951.

Butterflies Shoes shop, 57, Northgate
The front section of No 57, right of picture, and grade II listed, has the remains of a late medieval timber-framed building. The rear section to Gill's Yard, Image was once used as a furniture and upholstery warehouse by Wright and Elwick of Wakefield, the important Yorkshire furniture maker.

Northgate phone booths
These new style phone booths do not appear to be BT designed. In fact, they are provided by Spectrum Interactive. There are already over 5000 of these pay phones throughout the country.
