51-57 Kirkgate, Wakefield
The city centre redevelopment in 1955-57 resulted in a lot of buildings like this - brick, bland but inoffensive. Unless you are offended by bricks or blandness. Casino Gaming did not endure to 2025 but had been replaced by something of a similar ilk, Merkur Slots; Super Pound Store was still going; Fultons Foods has also not lasted.

Woolworths Wakefield
Woolworths, 45 Kirkgate. A rather grand previous store,http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/WakefieldCMS/Pages/TAandC/ImageView.aspx?source=l05739&thumbnail=False was replaced by this modern featureless building in 1956. The administrators of the 99yr old company are slashing prices to generate cash for creditors and offload unsold stock, hence the 50% off notices in the windows.

Blocks of flats above the Ridings shopping mall
Four of Wakefield's nine high-rise blocks of flats. They became more noticeable when they acquired pitched roofs and bright yellow trimmings. The road is Kirkgate, the main road south from the city centre.
