W H Kingswell, the linen drapers, previously occupied 2-10 Northgate. It is a grade II listed building, now occupied by Lloyds TSB & Yorkshire Bank.

Stan Barstow was born in 1928 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He attended Ossett Grammar School and started writing in the fifties. The novel ‘A Kind of Loving’ in 1960 was a major success, and was made into a film starring Alan Bates and June Ritchie. See Image

Jane rocketed to stardom in 1998 when she first appeared on our screens in the BBC1 docusoap 'The Cruise', as top of the bill on board the ship 'The Galaxy'. Neil Fox MBE, The brother of fellow rugby league players, Peter and Don Fox, was born 4 May 1939 in Sharlston, West Yorkshire, an English former rugby league footballer and player-coach of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. A goal-kicking Centre, he is one of the most prominent figures in the history of the sport because he holds the all-time points record, scoring 6,220 points during his career. In April 2010 Neil was awarded the Freedom of the City of Wakefield. See Image

Two further stars have been installed on Westmorland Street which forms part of Wakefield’s Hollywood-style walk of fame, leading from The Bull Ring to Wakefield Waterfront in Thornes Lane. The scheme aims to recognise current or past people who have a nationally recognised, outstanding achievement. See Image This star honours Reginald Moxon Armitage, 1898-1954, who was born in Outwood, near Wakefield. At the age of eight he won a music scholarship to Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield, and subsequently often deputised for the choir master at Wakefield Cathedral. Under the pen-name of Noel Gay, his music dominated the London stage and the hit parade for the next twenty five years. His biggest success though, was 'Me & My Girl' which opened at The Victoria Palace in London in 1937.
