Two further stars have been installed on Westmorland Street which forms part of Wakefield’s Hollywood-style walk of fame, leading from The Bull Ring to Wakefield Waterfront in Thornes Lane. The scheme aims to recognise current or past people who have a nationally recognised, outstanding achievement. See Image This star honours Reginald Moxon Armitage, 1898-1954, who was born in Outwood, near Wakefield. At the age of eight he won a music scholarship to Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield, and subsequently often deputised for the choir master at Wakefield Cathedral. Under the pen-name of Noel Gay, his music dominated the London stage and the hit parade for the next twenty five years. His biggest success though, was 'Me & My Girl' which opened at The Victoria Palace in London in 1937.
