The former colliery railway line curving up to a junction with a former branch line.

Old rail track at Woodend
Now a branch of the Lines Way system of paths and cycleways, this was originally a mineral line serving nearby coal pits such as Lowther Colliery, now long gone.

Allerton Bywater: the post office
The post office is in a very short parade (there is only one other shop; a hairdresser's) just off the main road through the village and somewhat to the north of the centre. It is therefore not the easiest to locate.
