Stafford Road and Wilderspool Causeway
I was intrigued by the bendy-over tops of the posts with the traffic signs - Triffids Mk2? Big brother is watching us? There are a lot of them around, and apparently they are [quite expensive] low voltage lights for the signs.

Swing bridge machinery, Wilderspool, Warrington
The Manchester Ship Canal retains water hydraulic bridge operating machinery although the pumping plant is now modernised. These are of about 1893 vintage and from Armstrong's works at Elswick on the Tyne. I didn't photograph the bridge at the same time. We were passing and the door was open so we just asked to have a look.
If anybody can post the bridge it would help broaden the story.

Wilderspool Brewery - steam engine
Tangye of Birmingham inverted vertical single cylinder engine. It has a flywheel mounted inertia governor that alters the valve cut-off. Quite a sophisticated feature and one I haven't seen that often. This engine was out of use and hidden in a corner of this tower brewery. It was acquired by the late Fred Dibnah MBE and used by him to drive a saw. It has recently been sold by Cheffins on behalf of the estate.
