Appleton Thorn (Bawming the Thorn)
The thorn tree at Appleton Thorn, Warrington. The hawthorn at Appleton is supposedly a descendant of the Holy Thorn at Glastonbury, which was itself said to have sprung from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea. Local children celebrate with a festival each June (a modern invention).
