Contractor's building site, St Ambrose
Adjacent to the new (2012/2013) College buildings, already constructed during the first phase of engineering works. This site covers-over yet more of the former estate of the Waugh family who sold it to the local Catholic Church hierarchy (for the establishment of a boys'grammar school) following the death of Leo Waugh in 1945. This will be the third expansion of the College from its post-war beginnings.

Upper driveway of 'Woodeaves', Hale Barns
To the right (unseen) is the house itself, largely unaltered, at least on the outside. Ahead, and to the left, are the vestiges of woodland and ornamental trees decimated by the development of St Ambrose College within the former Woodeaves estate. In the 1950s, there were still grassed tennis courts beyond - and enclosed by - the trees; a vegetable garden; and tilled fields, bearing root crops, bordering Broad Lane, to the west.

Houses of Hale Barns (10)
Amberley Drive: The small estate here occupies the site of a former mansion called 'Amberley'- the home of a silk merchant in the 1960s - pulled down to create land for speculative building on the western edge of Hale Barns.
