Cottage on Prescot Road, Portico
Richard John Seddon (sometimes known as King Dick) was the longest serving Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1893 to his death at sea in 1906. He was born in this cottage in 1845 to the local grammar school headmaster and a teacher but showed little aptitude at school and had only menial jobs before emigrating to Australia aged eighteen. Carmel College Mark II
An investment of 22 million pounds in 2009 has transformed Carmel College campus which now includes the Notre Dame Centre for Art & Design. The West Park building is the college’s main teaching block and the Dalton Building includes a theatre seating an audience of 200, dance studio, performance areas and ICT facilities.
