Cropthorne Court
Apartments on Maida Vale. A private road provides access and parking for residents. The single storey building with the light brown tiles on the left was a branch of the National Provincial Bank in the 1970's, evidence is still visible where the letters were screwed to the tiles. It is currently in use as offices.

Lord's Telephone Exchange
Taken from Hamilton Terrace, this photo shows the TE behind the block of flats in Hall Road. It serves parts of Maida Vale and St John's Wood, and used to have CUNningham and LORds telephone numbers until the late-1960s. CUNningham took its name from Cunningham Place off St John's Wood Road, whilst LORds took its name from the famous Lord's Cricket Ground in the same road. This TE now has 0207-266, 286 and 289 numbers, plus some Inner London numbers.

Lords Exchange Yard
Back in the days when this was a Strowger Telephone Exchange, staff were based here to provide service to the local customers. Here in a snowstorm we see some of the vans in the yard behind the exchange. Getting their drivers out of the canteen must have been a nightmare that day:-) For the record, the nearest is a Vauxhall Viva and the others are 15cwt Commers. Post Office Telecommunications were just about the last major orderers of these types. The buildings beyond the wall are on Hall road and the trees and houses visible through the gap between the buildings are on Hamilton Terrace.
