Ravenscourt Park; The Black Lion
Nearly 11 years after your photographer took Image] he swivelled round and took this view in the opposite direction. The pub is Grade II Listed although much altered from the original. The tower of Image] peeps over the foliage to the left.

Another view of Image The pub is late C18 and listed http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=201909&mode=adv . On the left is South Black Lion Lane. At this point the Thames Path has retreated a few metres from the riverside.

The 'Black Lion', Hammersmith
The Black Lion stands near the eastern end of Hammersmith Terrace, in the narrow strip of old Hammersmith which has survived between the Thames and the A4 dual carriageway. The shot was taken from the stub-end of Black Lion Lane, a few yards from the river - the view in the opposite direction is shown in Clare Gibson's Image The local authority has taken measures to prevent the end of Black Lion Lane from turning into a car park - rightly so, I would say, as this is still an attractive little corner of London. The contrast between the old (York stone?) paving and the new is a perfect demonstration of how much the character of a place owes to what is - actually - under your feet.

Office block on the A4, Hammersmith
As this has no name outside and shares its entrance and car park with a modern block of flats directly opposite I am wondering if it now has a different use.
