Electric car charging posts at McDonald's North Acton
This burger restaurant just opened has three car parking spaces with car charging posts - and a rather nifty logo of a car with a charging lead.

McDonald's North Acton by Western Avenue
Just opened when the photo was taken, there has been a long planning battle about access. McDonald's wanted access directly from the A40 Western Avenue. Cyclists objected as it would involve cars cutting across a cycle lane, planned to be part of a Cycle Super Highway. The result is that access is from Leamington Park. See Image for photo of a 2013 fire at a derelict building which was on this site.

Pop-up police vehicle check
A police strategy for finding vehicles which do not have current licence or insurance (or have been reported stolen) is to set up a check point, somewhere with a dual carriageway or layby or slip road so that vehicles can be pulled over without disrupting the traffic flow. They use a substantial team of police officers - there are ten visible in the photo - so they can check several vehicles at the same time. They appear suddenly, check for a few hours, and move on somewhere else. [edit] I see from Image that another Geograph contributor photographed another check in the same place, back in March 2012.

Six fire appliances were in action on this fire next to the A40 Western Avenue. In this photo a ladder is being prepared to get a hose up to direct water down onto the blazing roof.

An Unpleasant Surprise On Horn Lane
Well unpleasant for any motorists driving a vehicle that catches the eye of the Police Officers as they carry out spot checks. There were a couple of Police motocyclists waiting on the corner of Noel Road (out of shot on the left) and a traffic car waiting further back on Horn Lane in case of any motorists doing a runner. This was the second operation of this sort that I saw during the day - the other was in Craven Park.

Brand New
Park Royal Vehicles built Leyland Titan T51 (WYV51T) turns out of Wales Farm Road onto the A40. Captured in June 1979 it was out on a test drive. It was delivered to London Transport's Aldenham Works the following month and was sent to Chiswick for experimental work in October the same year. It finally entered service in December 1979 at North Street Garage, Romford. This bus was one of the last built at Park Royal - the factory closed in 1980 after over 90 years of building London's buses. Behind the bus is Leamington Park Hospital which opened in 1905 and would close in 1983. The corner site is currently (2013) open land awaiting development with a housing estate behind.
