Cloister Road Clinic, North Acton
Now used as Gunnersbury Day Hospital, it was built in 1935 when there was a great expansion of popuilation in the area. It is included as a Locally Listed Building of architectural or historical interest in Ealing Borough's new plan for the environment in http://www.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment/planning/planning_policy/new_plan_for_the_environment/ [edit January 2019] The site has been redeveloped as four town houses. The first plans kept the facade, but in the event no part of the 1935 building was retained

Complex recycling in Ealing
The London Borough of Ealing has just changed its rubbish collection arrangements to increase the amount recycled, see http://www.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment/recycling/. The hope is that householders sort their waste. Three different lorries come round the same day to collect it, and the streets are cleaned the next day. In this photo of our rubbish, from the left: reusable pink bags for garden waste - we happened to have a lot of woody and prickly prunings this week which wouldn't go in our compost bin; sealed green bucket for kitchen waste like fish and bones which we can't compost; cardboard; green box for paper, glass, tins, foil, and we could put fabric and shoes and phone directories in it; another green box for plastic except toys, furniture; and finally that little black bag for rubbish that can't be recycled. Didn't we do well! We separately collect cardboard drink cartons, metal, paint, batteries, ink cartridges, and some others and take them occasionally to the local tip - oops, mustn't call it the tip - local recycling centre.

10cm of snow in Cloister Road
We don't often get any snow settling in West London, let alone 10cm overnight. Many motorists sensibly didn't move their cars as many minor roads had not been ploughed or gritted.

Well organised flu jab clinic at Cloister Road surgery with social distancing
In coronavirus time the surgery organised flu vaccination for over-65s with a notice board of instructions, temporary shelter while waiting, several vaccination stations in the waiting room area, and a route out through the staff entrance so leaving patients avoid arriving ones.

Solar water heating and roof windows, North Acton
This house in Cloister Road has recently had solar water heating installed. On the roof there are windows above, and water heating panels below. Local planning guidelines are that the front elevation of houses must maintain the original roof line, but sloping windows are allowed. The backs of many houses have loft extensions which jut out from the original roof line.

Cloister Road, North Acton
Houses here were built around 1930. Flowers in the gardens are mainly roses, which do well on this clay soil.

Park View, North Acton
This street has 1930s terrace houses, each block has four houses, between each block is access to a service road and garages behind the houses. The shrubs on the far left are part of a site where houses were demolished to make way for an overpass on Western Avenue. The road project was abandoned. Recently Transport for London tried to turn the vacant land into a bus depot, but thankfully their plans have been rejected.

Filming England football fans for music video
Residents were warned that a group of extras would be in the street, filmed by a drone. They were dressed in the red and white of the England flag.

Setting up lights for filming
For a day the BBC were filming some interior scenes in the house on the right, and some on the pavement. The London Borough of Ealing encourages film crews - and makes good money from them. They suspended parking for the day for a hundred yards around, to park their vehicles and clear the filming area. In the photo technicians are setting up lights for the pavement shots.
